The parking space available at the busiest intersections of the capital and the capital areas will expand in the near future with the launch of multiple parking levels (MLCP).
According to Thiruvananthapuram Corporation officials, the ongoing MLCP work near Junction Medical College Junction is almost complete and is expected to be inaugurated soon. MLCP on Medical College is completed at the price of 19 crore. It can accommodate a total of 210 cars. Another parking lot of similar design comes at one end of Putharikandam Maithanam. The work is expected to be completed by June. Near Chala Market is implemented another project of a multi -level parking lot. Currently, it is difficult for pedestrians to navigate the road that passes through the center of the market, because vehicles are parked randomly on both sides, while vehicles and people leave only narrow space. The parking lot near the commercial center is expected to reduce overload on the market. Last year, funds assigned to work on multi -level parking lots in the Putharikandam Maithanam and Medical College, which were previously planned for Atal for rejuvenation and urban transformation (AMRUT) 1.0. In 2018, an administrative sanction was awarded a total of three MLCP. The parking lot in the area of corporation in Palayam with seven floors and the capacity to park 102 cars was completed earlier. However, with the time period for Amrut 1.0 ended in 2023, it was decided to transfer funds to an ongoing intelligent city. The AMRUT 1.0 scheme was part of the “improvement of urban transport equipment”, according to which MLCP was planned. However, Amrut 2.0, which focuses more on drinking water problems, has no such part. Despite the opening of MLCP in Palayam and Thampanoor, the Wayside parking was not drastically decreased and showed an acute lack of parking space in the city.
