On Monday (October 13, 2025), two more people were arrested in connection with the alleged rape of a 23 -year -old medical student in Durgapur West Bengal, in this case the total number of arrests in this case, the police said.
Representative of the police commissioner (DCP) of the police commissioner Asansol-Durgapur, Abhisek Gupta, said PTI: “There were two more arrests. Based on the complaint of the student, the police found that the incident occurred on Friday between 20:00 and 20:45.
Investigators said three men initially surrounded the student and ripped their phone when they tried to call their friends for help. Later, two more people joined them and allegedly raped her together.
The accused also offered her 5,000 GBP to leave quietly, police sources said.
The surviving friend who accompanied her is currently under police detention for interrogation.
Investigators said his movements and behavior at night after the incident caused suspicion. According to the father of the survivor, who also filed a separate complaint, his friend fled from the scene as the accused surrounded the woman.
Police sources said that investigators were investigating why he did not scatter other students after the refugee did not seek help from college.
On Sunday, October 12, three accused were arrested earlier before the Subcidivial Court in Durgapur and ced for 10 days of police ties.
They took place for others who could be involved or have knowledge of a crime, the police said.
The main Minister of West Bengalka Mamata Banerjee, who also holds the home portfolio, secured a strict action against the participants.
“None of the accused will be spared,” she said on Sunday.
Banerjee also questioned security arrangements at private medical faculties.
Odisha State Commission for Women (OSCW) President of Sovan Mohanta went to West Bengal on Monday to meet a medical student, her parents and also discuss with the local police.
Meanwhile, Durgapur visited the delegation of the Odisha Government, who consists of a female member, a police officer and a district official to meet the survivors.
Reportedly, however, was not allowed to enter the hospital. The team reportedly had to wait long and finally returned without meeting the survivors.
The police said that a medical student is currently undergoing treatment and remains supervised.
