Two more on police radar in suspected IED blast in Bengaluru
Two more individuals are on the police radar in connection with an explosion at an under-construction building in East Bengaluru’s Pulakeshinagar, which is suspected to have been triggered by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED).
A senior police officer said the two individuals are suspected of having played a role in the logistics, including the supply of materials believed to have been used in assembling the suspected IED.
Meanwhile, the Pulakeshinagar police have registered a case under Sections 61 (criminal conspiracy) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Act and Sections 3 and 5 of the Explosive Substances Act, 1908. These provisions relate to causing an explosion likely to endanger life or property and possession of explosive substances under suspicious circumstances.
A senior police officer told The Hindu that the police suspected an IED, citing remnants, including wires, recovered from the crime scene. The explosion was allegedly triggered by pressing the flashlight button.
However, police say the nature of the material can only be ascertained after receiving a report from the Forensic Science Laboratory.
One seriously injured
According to a senior police officer, police are interrogating one of the two injured persons – Allauddin from Assam and Suraj from Uttar Pradesh. Allauddin, the officer said, suffered a serious eye injury and is likely to lose sight in one eye.
Meanwhile, Bengaluru police have contacted their counterparts in Assam and Uttar Pradesh to verify the antecedents of the two injured. Another senior officer said neither of them had any criminal record against them in Karnataka.
“Both are working in the city through a contractor and still visit their native places. We are verifying their origin and previous whereabouts,” he said.
They also learned that a National Investigation Agency investigator has joined the city police as the investigation continues.
