Two more deaths due to shigellosis in Kerala
Two more deaths due to shigellosis were reported in Kerala on Monday (June 15, 2026). The death of a seven-year-old boy following bacillary dysentery or acute intestinal infection caused by shigella bacteria was reported from Kodur in Malappuram. The death of a 43-year-old man in Kodakara, Thrissur on June 13 was also confirmed on Monday as a result of shigellosis. Eight other cases — from Puthenthop and Mukkola in Thiruvananthapuram; Poruvazhy in Kollam; Kodakara in Thrissur; Aliparamba in Malappuram; and Vadakara, Moododi and Kunnamangalam in Kozhikode – were reported by the health department. So far this year, the state has reported a total of 147 confirmed cases, 76 probable cases and five deaths from shigellosis.
