Security forces involved militants in two separate fighting in the districts of Udhampura and Kishtwar in the Jammu region on Wednesday (April 9, 2025), the officials said.
In Udhampura, a meeting in Jopher began after the police Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) received specific information about the presence of suspicious militants. “The Special Operational Group (SOG) team was sent to the place. The shooting began during the search. The security forces were retaliated with fire,” said Amod Ashok Nagpure, head of the police superintendent (SSP), Udhampur.
It is assumed that around three militants are expected to work in the area. While the fire replacement continued, no confirmed reports of militant victims were confirmed in the middle of the evening. “The army and CRPF (Central Reserve Police Forces) were also mobilized. Reinforcements were sent to the meeting place.
The Kathua-Sthampura strip has recently witnessed an increased militant movement, which was reported to more than five observations. Previously, it resulted in an operation against a militance in the neighboring district of Kathhua to the death of four police officers and two militants.
Along with the meeting in Udhampur, another shooting in the Chatroo belt in the Kishtwar district in the Chenab Valley area broke out, where the army staff involved a group of hiding militants. The official said two to three fighters are present in this area. The officials said the militants used dense forest cover in mountainous terrain to extend engagement. Chatroo is located near Mughal Maidan, at an altitude exceeding 8,000 feet above the sea.
Security officials have seen a shift in militant tactics last year, with groups more and more from urban pockets to the distant jungle areas in the upper range of the Chenab valley, leading to long -term meetings. Last year, 30 such contacts in the Jammu region had 13 militants.
