The cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) is facing internal turbulence because two of its higher officials – a common secretary Debabrat Das and the treasurer Prabir Chakraborta – get under the scanner for alleged financial discrepancies and abuse of the office.
Debabrat Das, a prominent figure in the cricket circuit of Bengal, was issued a testimony of the cause of the cab. He was accused of detaining nearly 7 Lakh RS in the income of tickets from the association and maintaining money intended for the participation of the tournament of East Bengal and the Municipal Club. The cabin asked DAS to clean up fees within 15 days. While this particular problem was solved at the recent Apex Council session, other serious charges – including the receipt of funds in return for the team selection – remain unresolved.
The controversy surrounding DAS is not new. He used to be involved in public spitting with the former Indian Wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha, who accused him of questioning his commitment to the Bengal team. SPA led to the move Saha to Tripura.
In the further development, the treasurer Cab Prabir Chakraborty was accused of conflict of interest. The complaint filed by the Wari Club was handed over to Apex Council, which has now again handed over it to the public Ombudsman for a formal investigation. Chakraorts were also ordered to present use of use (UC) with details of how club funds were spent.
One of the more explosive accusations against DAS includes abuse of CAB resources by routing accounts for the grocery of city club players through the Association’s dining room. He was also accused of taking money from players in exchange for promises of the selection of Bengal team. Aditya School of Sports filed a complaint and claimed that DAS had received RS 4 Lakh from them in return for the promise of Cab Club.
When he was contacted, Debabrat Das refused to comment and quoted that the matter was an entity.
This development comes at a time when CAB is under increasing pressure to maintain transparency and responsibility. The decision of the peak council signals a fundamental step to restore the integrity and confidence of the public managed by the cricket of Bengal.
