The Government Railway Police (GRP) on Wednesday arrested two commuters in an express train at Jolarpet railway station for possession of 11 kg of ganja.

Police said the arrested persons were identified as K. Prakash (25) and his accomplice R. Sakthivel (20). They were residents of Salem. The initial investigation showed that as part of a special drive against the illegal transport of narcotic substances and inflammable objects on trains as part of Operation Narcos, police officers carried out surprise checks on trains.

They searched the luggage of two commuters in the Shalimar – Trivandrum Central Super-Fast Express train and found bundles of ganja.

The pair tried to flee, but the team managed to arrest them. A case has been registered and the arrested persons have been lodged in Vellore Central Jail. A probe is underway.
