The special working group UTTAR Pradesh (STF) arrested two alleged smugglers and confiscated the consignment of the Indian foreign liqueur worth around 60 lakh, which was smuggled from Pandjab to Bihar, the election dry state, the officials said on Tuesday.
On Monday evening, both accused of the Purvanchal motorway near Kandharapur in the Azamgarh district. The defendants were identified as Bhima Ram and Yogesh Kumar, both residents of Rajasthan’s Burmar district, the police said in a statement.
In the interest of intelligence inputs in the interstate network of liqueur operating in the eastern Uttar Pradesh, the field unit Varanasi, led by Inspector Anil Kumar Singh, performed a joint operation with the local police and consumer department, led to the liqueur of 537.
Officials stated that the liqueur was reportedly transported in a container truck with fake registration plates. The defendants reportedly worked for an interstate alcohol merchant named Ashu based in Chandigarh.
According to STF Ashu, he loaded a liqueur in a pandjab and reportedly provided false documents that show a shipment of refreshments and chips worth 12 lakh to cover the bottles.
The truck was supposed to deliver the shipment to a smuggler based in Bihar named Rahul, StF added. Bihar, which is to be for elections, has forced a total ban on liqueur since 2016.
The investigation revealed that the chassis and registration numbers of the container were reportedly manipulated to avoid detection during the vehicle check. When the registration data was verified, the actual owner of the Maharashtra’s Bhiwandi truck confirmed through the video call that his vehicle was parked there, and found that the documents of the seized vehicle were created, the officials said.
At the Kandharapur Police Station, a case was registered in Azamgarh according to Section 318 (4) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhit (BNS) and Sections 60, 63 and 72 of the UTTAR Pradesh Act.
