Two large empty sheds that were being renovated at a poultry farm in Pudur village of Ranipet district were destroyed in a fire.
Police said the four-acre poultry farm was owned by K. Lakshmipathy (38), a farmer. A farm that consists of four tin sheds with a tin roof. Each house can hold at least 6,000 chickens on average. As part of the restoration work, Lakshmipathy relocated about 20,000 chickens to temporary accommodation on his farm land.
The poultry houses were empty when a couple of residents noticed smoke in one of the sheds. Before the residents could call for help from the neighbors, the fire engulfed two sheds within a few minutes. Firefighters from Ranipet rushed to the spot and extinguished the fire after an hour. The fire was limited only to the affected poultry houses. The Thimir police also checked the place. A case has been registered and further investigation is underway.
