
In a tragic incident that occurred near Halavagala village in Harapanahalli taluk of Vijayanagara district on Sunday, two young brothers drowned in the Tungabhadra in front of their father who somehow managed to save the third son.
The victims were identified as 19-year-old MG Manu and 18-year-old MG Prajwal, sons of Halavagala resident Manjappa.
While Manu was in his first year of engineering, Prajwal was studying at PU.
According to sources, the brothers entered the water to take a bath and were later washed away by the river current.
The father tried to save his sons who were fighting against the current.
However, he was able to save the youngest son, Chiranjeevi, while watching the other two sons being swept away by the current.
The police and firefighters and the emergency services were immediately informed.
The bodies were recovered and taken to a government hospital.
A case has been registered at Halavagala police station. The incident left the family and local community in a state of shock and grief.
Authorities warned the public against entering the river in areas where water currents are unpredictable.
