The cyber crime police, Ernakulam rural, have arrested two people for allegedly revealing the identity of a survivor in a sexual exploitation case against Congress leader and Palakkad MLA Rahul Mamkoottathil.
Police charged Rasak PA and Raju Vidyakumar for allegedly posting the photograph of the survivor on their social media platform. Mr. Rasak is accused of spreading the photograph of November 29 and Mr. Vidyakumar of November 30. Mr. Mamkoottathil was booked by the Valiamala police on November 28.
Both Mr. Rasak and Mr. Vidyakumar were charged under Section 72(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which makes it an offense to print or publish the identity of a sex crime victim. If convicted, he faces up to two years in prison and a fine.
