A special team of the Yadgir police arrested the two accused and recovered ₹8,20,000 in cash and jewelery worth ₹4,35,000 from them on Thursday.
Police identified the accused as 17-year-old Sandeep and 39-year-old Shankar. Both are natives of Bhadravati in Shivamogga district.
Superintendent of Police Prutwik Shankar formed a team of Inspector Sunil Mulimani, Sub-Inspector Manjanagoud and others, including women, to crack the theft case, which was registered at the Yadgir town police station on January 16.
It followed a complaint lodged by Sharanappa Honnappa Balichakra that unknown men had stolen cash and jewelery kept in a bag in a car parked at the railway station in Yadgir.
“Immediately after the incident, police officers with sniffer dogs and fingerprint experts rushed to the spot and thoroughly inspected the crime scene,” Mr. Shankar told The Hindu.
A team of police officers collected footage from closed circuit television cameras erected at nearby locations and also collected other information related to the crime.
Acting on clues, the team arrested the accused as they lay in wait in preparation for another hit, sources said.
Cash of ₹8,20,000 and 29 grams of jewelery worth ₹4,35,000 and two motorcycles which were used in the theft were recovered from the arrested men, he said.
Additional Superintendent of Police Dharaneesh and Deputy Superintendent of Police Suresh supervised the team in which Mr. Mulimani, Mr. Manjanagouda, Ramesh, Suresh, Monappa, Saidappa, Dawalsab, Sanganagouda, Govind, Venkatesh, Gundamma, Suma and Abdul Basha were present.
