KPHB police on Wednesday arrested two people in connection with a case of medical negligence that led to the death of a 66-year-old woman in May 2025.
The accused have been identified as Penumatsa Srinivas Phanivarama, 46, and Subramanyam Udayagiri, 38. Two smartphones belonging to the accused were seized during the arrest.
The case dates from May 6, 2025, when a woman visited the MedQuest Diagnostic Center in KPHB Colony for a CT scan after complaining of a cold. During the procedure, a dose of contrast was administered prior to the scan. Shortly after, she reportedly developed complications and suffered a sudden cardiac arrest. While being transported to a nearby hospital for treatment, she died on the way.
Following the incident, the KPHB police registered a case under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and launched a detailed investigation. During the probe, investigators collected certificates submitted by staff who administered the dose of contrast material and asked the district medical officer and health officer to verify that the staff in question were qualified to perform the procedure.
Police said verification revealed that the individuals who administered the dose were not qualified or authorized to do so. The autopsy report also confirmed the finding that medical negligence contributed to the woman’s death.
