Two individuals were arrested and nearly 5 kg of ganja and a small quantity of MDMA were seized after a dramatic chase and scuffle with the State Task Force (STF)-B team of the Telangana Excise and Prohibition department at Pedda Amberpet ORR Exit No. 11 on Friday.
A woman involved in a drug-trafficking operation managed to escape and remains on the run.
According to officials, the trio, identified as Goberu Venkata Chaitanya alias Fake Rezwan, his wife Nadimiti Mamata and their associate Padamati Ravinder, were nabbed on specific information that the couple was transporting ganja from Rajahmundry to Hyderabad.
The STF team stopped their car and moved in to seize the contraband when the suspects allegedly attacked the officers with knives and sticks in an attempt to flee. Two police officers suffered minor injuries in the attack.
The personnel chased the fleeing suspects and arrested Chaitanya and Ravinder. Mamata managed to escape and they are trying to trace her.
The team seized 4.495 kg of ganja, 0.65 mg of MDMA, a car used for transportation and three mobile phones. Officials said the couple often brought ganja from Rajahmundry and other drugs from Bengaluru with the help of friends, supplying them to buyers across Hyderabad before returning to Rajahmundry.
The arrested couple is already involved in several drug-trafficking cases in the city and was earlier caught by STF operatives while transporting ganja.

Meanwhile, in a separate operation, the STF-A team seized 52 liquor bottles in two cases during inspections near the Hyderabad airport.
The police were acting on information that liquor was being transported from Delhi to Goa in an SUV. The checks led to the seizure of 22 bottles in one case and 30 bottles of unpaid liquor in another case.
Criminal charges were filed against six people and the vehicle was impounded. The seized liquor and the accused were handed over to Excise Station Saroornagar for further investigation.
