Two Andhra Medical College PG students found dead within five days; probe on

Two postgraduate students of the Andhra Medical College (AMC) in Visakhapatnam, one in the final year and the other in the first year, reportedly committed suicide within five days. Police are conducting a detailed investigation into both the deaths on the orders of Commissioner of Police Shankhabrata Bagchi.

On September 24, P. Sailaja, a final-year postgraduate student in general medicine, died at her residence under Police Station III. Her family told police that career-related stress may have been a factor. City Police III registered a case and started an investigation.

On September 28, Y. Sravani, a first-year ENT student from Hyderabad, died in her rented flat. According to preliminary findings, the police did not want to continue the course.

A note left behind said no one should be held responsible for her death, police said.

The two incidents during the week raised concerns among the AMC student community and raised questions about the pressures postgraduate medical students face.
