Mariska Hargitay recently shared a deeply personal story to find that her late father, actor Mickey Hargitay, was not her biological parent. The star “Law & Order: SVU”, raised by Hargitay, along with her siblings after the tragic death of her mother Jayne Mansfield in 1967, told the moment when she learned the truth during the podcast “call her dad”. She described the ride to the house that Mickey physically built for her, hysterically faced him with news. His initial denial and visible panic, “blood that drains from his face,” confirmed her concern and left her feeling that her identity was “broken”.
How did the interviews go?
“I went to my father’s house and I was hysterically crying and in the state and he was – what about a metaphor, my dad physically built me a house. So, I drive in the house that he puts me and confronted with him,” Mariska quoted.
“He was like,” What are you talking about? Are you crazy? That’s not that true, “Mariska.
“Ironically, I’m more like my dad than anyone else in our whole family. I’m mini-mickey, so it was just a very extremely painful moment, I say it’s a moment I became an adult, and that’s so visceral for me because I was so much that I was so much pain.
Discovery and document
Hargitay watched the revelation to an intense, instinctive moment. When visiting a collector with Jayne Mansfield Memorabilia, hearing the name Nelson Sardelli launched an immediate, deep “jolt”. “I knew in one second,” she said, attributing it to the subconscious memories that came together after their lives. Asks “Who is Nelson?” She led her to confirm Sardelli, a 90 -year -old comedian and singer, as her biological father after seeing his photograph. She recently shared it with Vanity Fair before her documentary HBO “My Mom Jayne”, who examines this family secret through interviews with her siblings and Mansfield’s other children.
The document will immerse itself in a comprehensive family history, including Mansfield’s divorce with Mickey Hargitay in 1964. Mansfield actually filed in 1962, but after finding that she was pregnant with Mariska, a couple temporarily reconciled and delayed the announcement of the divorce after birth.
Mariska first met Sardelli emotionally in 1994 in New Jersey, where he said, “I was waiting for 30 years for this moment.” The film presents her siblings, including Mickey Hargitay Jr., Zoltan, Tiny (Mickey’s daughter from another marriage), Jayne Marie (the first daughter of Mansfield) and Tony (Mansfield’s son with Matt Cimber).
