Edappaly Junction, which has become a notorious traffic mud over the last decade, would be lined with a pair of overpasses on both sides by the end of the year, if everything goes according to plan.
According to the National Plan on the Indian Plan motorway, vehicles waiting to exceed the deepened intersection will be diverted through the underpasses of both overpasses, whose construction began at the beginning of this year on the north and southern side of the intersection. It is expected that this will bring the smooth flow of vehicles over the intersection by reducing the traffic signals.
Official sources, which confirmed that a pair of overpasses would be prepared at the end of the year, said that the work has gained considerable progress in the overpass planned on the northern side of the intersection on the way to Varappuzha, while on the south side the drains and allied infrastructure are being built. 650 meters long structures should underpasses that are 50 m wide to take care of vehicles moving in multiple lanes.
Once the structures are ready, only vehicles from Varappuzha will be felt directly from the intersection, while motorists use the existing overpass in the east-west (along NH 544) by doing so by the intersection where NH 66 passes NH 544.
The crossings that would end near Oberon Mall on the south side of the Edappally junction and take off approximately 700 meters from the intersection in front of the Lulu Group, located on the northern side of the intersection.
