VIZIANAGARAM/PARVATIPURAM:
The travel time between Vizianagaram and Parvathipuram via Bobbili is expected to be reduced with the completion of the bridge over the Vegavati river near Bobbili. The bridge over the Suvarnamukhi river is already completed while the work on the second bridge over the Vegavati river near Paradi village is nearing completion.
Currently, the bus journey from Vizianagaram to Parvathipuram takes about 3 hours. This time is expected to reduce to around 2.15 hours after the commissioning of the Vegavati River Bridge.
Commuters have been facing problems for almost a decade due to the dilapidated condition of the old bridges, built during the British regime.
The new Suvarnamukhi River Bridge completed a few months ago was constructed at an estimated cost of ₹12 crore. This bridge connects Bobbili with Parvathipuram and its opening eased traffic movement on the route. Previously, truck and bus drivers had to take detours and traffic jams were often reported along the route.

The Roads and Buildings Department has completed the trial operation of a bridge on the Vegavati River near Paradi village in Bobbili Assembly constituency. The bridge was built at a cost of ₹17 million. Heavy vehicles are currently allowed to pass through. The bridge will open to all traffic soon after the remaining work is completed.
Parvathipuram TDP MLA Bonela Vijaya Chandra has asked the Roads and Buildings Department to prioritize the maintenance of the Suvarnamukhi river bridge and the road connecting Parvathipuram town.
The MLA alleged that “the previous YSRCP government ignored the project. But Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu sanctioned the funds and ensured its speedy completion.”
Bobbili MLA Baby Nayana said the road repair work between Ramabhadrapuram and Bobbili has been completed after the government sanctioned funds. The bridge will be commissioned soon once the ongoing works are completed by the R&B authorities.
