
The new Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu C. Joseph Vijay was one of the biggest Tamil film stars who dominated Kollywood for the last almost 30 years. He made his debut as a lead actor in his father SA Chandrasekhar’s film Naalaya Theerpa in 1992, after appearing as a child actor in Vetri in 1984. In a career spanning over three decades, he starred in 68 films and became the highest-paid actor in Tamil cinema. His 69th film Jana Nayagan is yet to release.

Mr. Vijay, who was elected from Perambur and Tiruchi East, is entering the assembly for the first time. In February 2024, he transformed his fan club and social service organization – Vijay Makkal Iyakkam – into a political party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam. The 51-year-old actor-politician completed his undergraduate course from Loyola College, Chennai in 1992 to pursue a film career. Apart from acting, he is a correspondent of Vijay Vidyashram and an executive director and trustee of several trusts.
On Sunday (May 10, 2026), nine ministers were sworn in with him. Who are these ministers?
N. Anand
N. Anand, popularly known as “Bussy” N. Anand, is the general secretary of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam and is the second-in-command after party president C. Joseph Vijay. He headed Mr. Vijay’s fan club and a social service organization – Vijay Makkal Iyakkam before joining the key political role at TVK.

Elected from the T. Nagar Assembly constituency in Chennai, Mr. Anand has the distinction of being elected to legislatures in two different States/Union Territories. He was first elected to the Puducherry Legislative Assembly in 2006 from Bussy constituency, from which he earned his popular saying. He was elected as the Puducherry Munntra Congress candidate.
This 62-year-old leader, a native of Puducherry, studied up to IX. class in the territory of the Union before he entered public life. Over the years, he emerged as the closest associates of Mr. Vijay, who played a key organizational role in candidate selection at TVK.
KA Sengottaiyan
KA Sengottaiyan, one of the senior most legislators in the Tamil Nadu Assembly, is the chief coordinator of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam High Level Committee. A ten-time MLA, Mr. Sengottaiyan was first elected to the assembly from Sathyamangalam in 1977 as an AIADMK candidate.

Apart from the 1996 and 2001 elections, the 78-year-old leader has successively won the Gobichettipalayam constituency in Erode district since 1980. It is the first time that he was elected on the TVK candidate list. A prominent AIADMK leader for decades, he also served as former Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa’s campaign manager and was part of her first cabinet from 1991 to 1996. He briefly served again in Mrs. Jayalalithaa’s cabinet in 2011 before being dismissed, and later became the Education Minister in the Palanis 200 government in Edappadi Kled.
Before joining the TVK in November 2025, Mr. Sengottaiyan tried to reunite the AIADMK, although these attempts were unsuccessful.
Aadhav Arjuna
Elected from Villivakkam Assembly constituency in Chennai, Aadhav Arjuna is entering the assembly for the first time. The sports administrator and political consultant serves as the General Secretary (Election Campaign Management) of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam.

Before joining the TVK in January 2025, the 43-year-old leader played a key role as a political advisor to the DMK. He later joined the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi led by Thol. Thirumavalavan and became the deputy general secretary of the party. While he raised a demand for a share of power in the VCK, he caused an argument that led to his expulsion from the party. He then broke up and joined Mr. Vijay.
Mr Arjuna, the son-in-law of lottery trader Santiago Martin, also runs the political consultancy Voice of Commons. Apart from politics, he has been active in sports administration and currently serves as the president of the Basketball Federation of India and the Tamil Nadu Basketball Association. He is also the General Secretary of the Tamil Nadu Olympic Association. He holds a BA in Political Science from Madras Christian College.
KG Arunraj

KG Arunraj, a prominent Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam leader hails from Salem and was elected to Tamil Nadu Assembly from Tiruchengode constituency. Dr. Arunraj, a former Indian Revenue Service officer, currently serves as the General Secretary (Policy and Propaganda) of TVK.
The 46-year-old leader holds an MBBS degree from Madras Medical College. Before joining the Indian Revenue Service and working in the Income Tax Department, Dr. Arunraj as a doctor at a primary health center in Dharmapuri district.
CTR Nirmalkumar
Elected from Thirupparankundram Assembly constituency in Madurai, CTR Nirmalkumar is the joint general secretary of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam and one of the party’s key spokespersons. He is entering the parliament for the first time.

Before joining TVK in January 2025, the 44-year-old gad served as state president of the BJP’s Tamil Nadu IT and Social Media wing till March 2023. He later joined the AIADMK, serving as joint secretary of the party’s IT and Social Media wing.
Hailing from Usilampatti in Madurai district, Mr. Nirmalkumar has an academic background spanning Engineering, Law and Social Sciences. He holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree, an LL.B. and a master’s degree in criminology and police administration.
A. Rajmohan
A. Rajmohan, elected from the Egmore (SC) Assembly constituency in Chennai, is entering the assembly for the first time. The popular YouTuber started his career in the digital space by lending his voice to social causes and gradually gained recognition through appearances on several YouTube and TV channels as a show host.

The 39-year-old is widely known for his Tamil speaking skills and public speaking. Hailing from Pallavaram, Mr. Rajmohan is a graduate in Management and Journalism. He holds a Diploma in Business Management from IIT Madras and a BA in Journalism from Madurai Kamaraj University.
P.Venkataramanan
Elected from the Mylapore Assembly constituency in Chennai, P. Venkataramanan is the treasurer of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK). He is also one of the two candidates from the Brahmin community elected to the 17th Tamil Nadu Assembly.

A lawyer by profession, the 48-year-old manager has an academic education in business, business administration and law. He holds a Master of Commerce from Annamalai University, a Master of Business Administration from Periyar University and an LL.M. degree from Annamalai University.
TK Prabhu
TK Prabhu, who hails from a family with political connections, was first elected from the Karaikudi Assembly constituency. Profession dentist Dr. Prabhu is also active on social media and has built a public profile through his outreach activities.

Hailing from Devakottai, the 41-year-old leader holds several qualifications in dental sciences, including advanced degrees and fellowships from foreign institutions.
S. Keerthana

One of the youngest MLAs in the 17th Tamil Nadu Assembly, S. Keerthana, 29, is a first-time legislator from Sivakasi in Virudhunagar district. Ms. Keerthana holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from Madurai Kamaraj University and a Master’s degree in Statistics from Pondicherry Central University. He can speak Tamil, Telugu, Hindi and English.
