Top Tamil actor C. Joseph Vijay is a cub Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) made a stunning electoral debut on Monday (May 4, 2026) to become the single largest party with 107 seats in the 17th. Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections. In doing so, it disrupted the nearly half-century-old bipolar landscape it dominates Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK).
Fueled almost entirely by Mr Vijay’s charisma, the TVK took on the fronts of multiple parties led by two Dravidian majors and fell just 11 seats short of the halfway mark in the 234-member House. The party secured an impressive 35% vote share, garnering over 1.6 million votes across regions, communities and religions. Mr Vijay himself won from both Perambur and Tiruchi East.
