Congress President Tamil Nadu (TNCC) said on Saturday (April 19, 2025) that the recent increase in excise tax on gasoline and diesel by 2 per liter in the center is an example of “tax terrorism Modi”.
In his statement, Congress’s leader stated that when the government of the United progressive Alliance (UPA) withdrew, the consumer tax on gasoline and diesel was 9.20 GBP and 3.46 GBP. Since then, the excise tax has increased by 357% for petrol and 54% for diesel. “There is no further evidence than this, tax terrorism (Narendra) of Modi’s government,” he said.
During the UPA government, when international oil prices occurred, gasoline and diesel prices were also adequately reduced. Although the oil price was $ 110 per barrel, the UPA government provided almost 2 lakh Crore as a subsidy annually to prevent people from being burdened, he said.
“Oil prices have fallen by 40%since 2014. From 2014 to 2025, but to store a higher excise tax on gasoline and diesel, the Union government collected 39.54 Lakh Crore in taxes. This is a clear example of anti-human policy,” added Mr. Selvateerunthagai.
