A record 400 acres of land has been collected this year for the first time since the establishment of Tirupati Urban Development Authority (TUDA) in 1981, said its chairman Dr. C. Divakar Reddy during a press conference on completion of one year of his tenure at his office in Tirupati on Thursday.
He said TUDA is generating revenue of ₹400-500 crore from the 400 acres acquired. Sharing the achievements of the municipal body during the year, he explained, “The coalition government has provided a permanent solution to the land sacrifice problem in Settipalli, which was pending for almost five decades.
“As per Chief Minister’s order, the government has completely waived the registration fee of about ₹ 17.50 crore without burdening the poor beneficiaries. Plots have been allotted to 1,711 beneficiaries (1,432 house plots, 279 agricultural plots) in a highly transparent manner,” said the e-DIP head of free lottery system registration.
He further said that “Operation SWARNA (Swarnamukhi Waterbody Action for River and Nala Awareness)”, an anti-encroachment initiative aimed at restoring the 130 km long Swarnamukhi River, was undertaken to protect the watercourse and surrounding areas of the city. We are constantly working to prevent illegal encroachments on watershed areas.
“Our main objective is to make the temple town traffic free for the city dwellers as well as the pilgrims. As part of this, we are fast-tracking the main road construction and advanced field level drainage work in the Upparapalli area. Also, Telugu Ganga pipeline relocation work and road construction are being done with TUDA funds,” said Mr. Reddy.
“In order to improve the environment, the beautification and development work on Lake Avilala has been accelerated, and the water flow is being regulated in coordination with the irrigation department. In the coming days, we will simplify the process of obtaining permits for the establishment of resorts and congress centers to support tourism in rural areas,” he added.
