In a major step towards maintaining ecological balance in Tirumala, Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) has launched an ambitious transition from conventional diesel and petrol vehicles to an all-electric mobility system.
Another executive of TTD Ch. Venkaiah Chowdary made the announcement and highlighted the Temple Board’s commitment to environmental stewardship at one of the most revered pilgrimage centers in the country.
The statement came after a recent review meeting in Tirupati attended by senior consultants from the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (New Delhi) along with officials from the State Transport Department, APSRTC and TTD.
Mr. Chowdary said the initiative was in line with Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s vision to transform Tirumala into a pollution-free pilgrimage site.
“Several arrangements are underway. Our priority is to introduce a complete fleet of electric buses on the Tirumala ghat roads,” he said, adding that taxis and other taxis plying on the hill would also be gradually replaced by electric vehicles.
As part of the review, Senior Consultant Kunal Joshi from New Delhi made a detailed presentation outlining various aspects of the proposed transition.
He noted that the matter will be brought up in the upcoming TTD Trust Board meeting for finalization.
