TTD contract workers demand a minimum monthly salary of ₹26,000

The contractual employees and workers of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) staged a protest outside the TTD administration building in Tirupati on Saturday, demanding an increase in minimum monthly wages to ₹26,000.

Addressing the protesters, CITU state vice president Kandarapu Murali said the TTD has a responsibility to improve the wages of contract workers who serve the thousands of devotees visiting Tirumala every day.

Asked how the laborers could support their families with the current monthly wages of ₹13,000 amid the rising cost of living, he claimed that even those serving devotees were not given the opportunity to have Srivari darshan.

Mr. Murali also demanded that an Anna Prasadam center be set up for contract workers and darshan facilities along with Laddu and Vada prasadam entitlement cards be provided to all contract and outsourced workers.

He warned of intensified agitation if the demands were not addressed before the annual Brahmotsavam in 2026 or before the next TTD board meeting, also expressing concern over the lack of job security for workers employed through Facility Management Services (FMS).

CITU district president S. Jayachandra and district secretary T. Subramanyam said previous wage revisions were achieved through union struggles. They also demanded regularization of forest workers and alleged that water works department employees were working without adequate safety measures.
