US President Donald Trump’s son Eric on Monday stepped up his attack on New York Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani, accusing him of “hating” the Indian population.
Eric said this while speaking to Fox News.
“There is no place in the world that can compete with New York. No one can compete yet. Then you have a socialist, a communist, whatever you want to call him – who wants to nationalize the grocery stores and wants to arrest Netanyahu. He hates the Jewish people, he hates the Indian people,” Eric said.
The co-founder and chief strategy officer of American Bitcoin said Mamdani should instead focus on safe streets, clean streets, reasonable taxes, adding: “The city could thrive without government intervention.”
Mamdani, a 34-year-old staunch democratic socialist, won the election, defeating former governor Andrew Cuomo and Republican Curtis Sliwa – becoming the city’s first Muslim mayor and the first person of South Asian descent to lead the city.
The Ugandan-born son of filmmaker Mira Nair and professor Mahmood Mamdani will become New York’s 111th vice mayor on January 1, 2026.
Meanwhile, Mamdani hopes to meet with Trump to find ways to work together on the central focus of his winning campaign — affordability.
Speaking at a food pantry in the Bronx, the Democrat confirmed that his team had reached out to the White House to set up a possible sit-in.
On Sunday night, Trump, who has consistently criticized Mamdani, told reporters he planned to meet with the mayor-elect and said “we’ll figure something out.”
After winning the election, Mamdani said he will work every day to honor the trust he has and look forward to talking to Donald Trump or anyone about things that could benefit the city’s residents.
Challenges for Mamdani
Among the key challenges, one of the hardest things for the mayor-elect will be to maintain a relationship with the White House and deliver on his promises on affordability.
President Donald Trump has repeatedly criticized Mamdani, from calling him a “communist lunatic” to threatening to withhold funding.
“Mamdani is going to be in a very challenging fiscal situation with the city budget and a challenging federal situation with changing policies that will strain all kinds of systems in the city,” Andrew Rein, head of the New York City Citizens Budget Commission Organization, told Politico.
