Trump’s $1 Trillion Promise: Every US Adult Will Get $5,000 If Republicans Win Congress — What Is The “Trump Dividend” | Today’s news

US President Donald Trump announced a “TRUMP DIVIDEND” on Wednesday (local time). At the Republican convention in Dallas, Texas, the US president made a big promise to the American people when he said he would give every adult US citizen a $5,000 dividend if the Republicans retain control of both houses of Congress.

“…Only I can make this promise to you. If the Republicans win both the House and the Senate, because of our tremendous economic success, I will issue a $5,000 dividend to every adult in the United States,” Trump said Wednesday.

Trump’s announcement is seen as an extraordinary effort to motivate voters to support his party in November’s midterm elections. He pleaded with his supporters to “pretend” he was on the ballot.

“Pretend I’m on the ballot”

Doubling down on his bet that he can help Republicans defy the polls and hold both houses of Congress on Nov. 3, Trump said, “I’m asking you to pretend I’m on the ballot.”

“I’m on the ticket, I’m on the ticket – one more time,” he told the crowd.

“If the Republicans win, you win with us and you get $5,000. It’s going to be called the Trump dividend,” he said at the Republican midterm convention in Dallas as the party battles Democrats in the polls.

Trump made the proposal at his Republican Party’s first-ever midterm convention.

The $1 trillion bill: Where does this money come from?

Trump did not say where the money came from, saying only that “our country is making so much money.”

The theoretical bill is likely to exceed $1 trillion. With about 270 million adults in the US, the idea would cost around $1.35 trillion, Reuters and AFP reported. It was not immediately clear how the payments would work or whether they would be legal.

‘Bribery’: Trump’s $5,000 check promise sparks backlash

Several critics and social media users were quick to point out that Trump was offering money for votes six months ago. “Trump just promised $5,000 to every adult if they vote to keep Republicans in power… That’s not a dividend. That’s a bribe,” the post on X read.

Meanwhile, US stockbroker Peter Schiff wrote on X: “Today, Trump tried to buy the midterms by offering all voters a $5,000 bribe in exchange for their votes, provided they spend cash in the US. Because the Fed would have to print money, the result would be massive inflation that far exceeds anything experienced under Biden.”

Another commented: “lol. Trump is openly bribing people to vote Republican. $5,000 per person if Republicans hold the House and Senate?” Another criticized the president, saying: “That’s $2 trillion of taxpayer money for free – Venezuela model. In a real democracy, this is vote buying and he should be banned from running.”

US midterm elections: What do the polls show?

Polls overwhelmingly show Trump’s approval rating in the low 30s as voters grow increasingly angry about high prices and the war he has launched against Iran.

Decision Desk HQ projects Democrats to win the House 230-205 and the Senate to end November 51-49 in their favor.
