
On Thursday, European farmers urged the EU to prefer negotiating measures against the entry into the tariffs of US President Donald Trump and warned against the trade war.
The Pan-European Group of Copa-Cogeca’s farmers condemned Washington’s slap of 20 % of the tariff to all EU goods and stated that there was a risk of disrupting global supply chains and raising prices.
But as Brussels has prepared countermeasures, a group – which says it represents 22 million farmers – warned against escalating.
Measures of retaliation of business measures
“Retrolling trade measures will not benefit EU or the US or the US. Instead, they will reduce our opportunities, increase prices and weaken the resistance of agricultural enterprises,” said Lennart Nilsson, one of two Copa-cogeca presidents.
“We call on both administrations to prioritize negotiations and explore all diplomatic paths before we resort to measures that could have long -term consequences.”
Particularly exposed to the European Wine and spirits sector, the main exporter, with Trump, which previously threatened to save 200 % of duties on imports.
On Wednesday, Trump announced an extensive assignment of imports to the United States, which upset the worldwide trade war and sent the markets of tumbling.
