US President Donald Trump reiterated his demand for Greenland on Tuesday when he shared an AI-generated map of the US showing the region along with Canada in US territory.
Trump continues to push his demand even as Greenlandic party leaders reject his repeated calls for the US to take control of the island.
Trump shared two separate AI-generated posts on Truth Social. The first post shows him sitting in the Oval Office alongside a new map of the US while NATO leaders including French President Emmanuel Macron, Italy’s Giorgio Meloni, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen are present.
In another photo, Trump is seen with an American flag near a billboard – “Greenland – US Territory”. Estimate. 2026′ — with Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio present.
Trump, meanwhile, spoke to NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte on the phone about Greenland and said he would meet with several parties in Davos.
“I had a very good phone call with Mark Rutt, NATO Secretary General, regarding Greenland. I agreed to a multi-party meeting in Davos, Switzerland. As I said to everyone, very clearly, Greenland is a national and world security imperative. There is no turning back – everyone agrees on that! The United States of America is the most powerful country in the world, by far, in social contribution,” Trump said.
Strengthening the capabilities of the US military, Trump declared: “We are the only FORCE that can bring PEACE to the world – and that is done simply, through FORCE!”
Later, in another post, Trump also shared a message from Rutte.
The full message read: “Mr. President, dear Donald – what you have done in Syria today is incredible. I will use my media engagement in Davos to highlight your work there, in Gaza and in Ukraine. I am determined to find a way forward in Greenland. I can’t wait to see you. Yours, Mark.”
Trump claimed that if the US doesn’t own Greenland, Russia or China will take it over and the US doesn’t want it as a neighbor.
However, Greenlandic party leaders said they did not want to be Americans.
“We don’t want to be Americans, we don’t want to be Danes, we want to be Greenlanders,” Greenland Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen and four party leaders said in a statement last week.
