US President Donald Trump said on Friday local time that Abu-Bilal al-Minuki, ISIS’s second-in-command worldwide, had been killed in an operation led by US and Nigerian forces.
“Tonight, at my direction, the brave American forces and the armed forces of Nigeria flawlessly executed a carefully planned and highly complex mission to remove the world’s most active terrorist from the battlefield,” Trump said in a post on TruthSocial.
“Abu-Bilal al-Minuki, the second in command of ISIS worldwide, thought he might be hiding in Africa, but he didn’t know we had sources informing us of what he was doing.”
“He will no longer terrorize the people of Africa or help plan operations targeting Americans. With his removal, ISIS’s global operations have been greatly reduced,” the US president said. “Thank you to the government of Nigeria for your partnership in this operation. GOD BLESS AMERICA!”
