US President Donald Trump on Sunday urged his fellow Republicans in Congress to vote to release files related to the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
“House Republicans should vote to release the Epstein files because we have nothing to hide,” Trump said in a post on Truth Social.
“And it’s time to move on from this Democratic fraud perpetrated by radical left-wing lunatics to turn away from the Great Success of the Republican Party, including our recent Victory over the Democrat ‘Shutdown.’
‘We have nothing to hide’
Trump posted TRUTH on social media that House Republicans should vote to release the Epstein files because we have nothing to hide…”
He said the Justice Department has already released tens of thousands of pages about “Epstein” to the public, is investigating “various Democratic operatives (Bill Clinton, Reid Hoffman, Larry Summers, etc.) and their relationship with Epstein, and the House Oversight Committee can have whatever they are legally entitled to, I’M SURE OF IT!”
“All I care about is getting the Republicans BACK ON POINT, which is the economy, ‘Affordability’ (where we win BIG!), our victory in reducing inflation from the highest level in history to virtually zero, lowering prices for the American people, providing historic tax cuts, getting trillions of our investments back in America (THE RECORD!), rebuilding the border military, rebuilding the border military Illegal aliens, ending Men in Women’s sports, stopping transgender people for everyone, and so much more. Nobody cared about Jeffrey Epstein when he was alive, and if the Democrats had anything, they would have released it before we won the election,” Trump said.
He added: “Some ‘members’ of the Republican Party are being ‘used’ and we cannot allow that. Let’s start talking about the record achievements of the Republican Party and not fall into the Epstein “TRAP” which is actually the curse of the Democrats, not us. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”
Bill fires Epstein
Lawmakers seeking to compel the release of files related to the Jeffrey Epstein sex-trafficking investigation are predicting a major victory in the House this week with a “flood of Republicans” voting for their bill and backing GOP leadership and President Donald Trump, who have been downplaying their efforts for months.
The bill would force the Justice Department to release all files and communications related to Epstein, as well as any information about the investigation into his death in federal prison. Information about Epstein’s victims or ongoing federal investigations could be redacted.
“There could be 100 or more” votes from Republicans, said Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., among lawmakers discussing the legislation in Sunday news appearances. “I hope to get a veto majority when this legislation is voted on.”
Massie and Rep. Ro Khanna, D-Calif., filed a discharge petition in July to force a vote on their bill. This is a rarely successful tool that allows a majority of members to bypass the leadership of the House and force a vote.
The Trump and Epstein file
Trump’s connection to Epstein is well established, and the president’s name was included in records released by his own Justice Department in February in an effort to satisfy public interest in information from the sex-trafficking investigation.
Trump has never been accused of wrongdoing in connection with Epstein, and the mere inclusion of one’s name in investigative files does not imply otherwise. Apart from Trump, Epstein, who killed himself in prison while awaiting trial in 2019, also had many prominent acquaintances in political and celebrity circles.
