Trump News on Tariffs LIVE: President Donald Trump vowed on Saturday to impose escalating tariffs on European allies until the United States is allowed to reclaim Greenland, heightening tensions over the future of Denmark’s Arctic territory.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump said that starting February 1, an additional 10% import tariff will be imposed on goods from Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Finland and the UK, which already face tariffs imposed by his administration.
He added that those tariffs would increase to 25% from June 1 and remain in place until a deal is reached to allow the US to get Greenland.
Trump has repeatedly argued that Greenland is key to US national security because of its strategic location and vast mineral resources, and has not ruled out the use of force to take control of the island, according to Reuters. Several European countries sent military personnel to Greenland this week at Denmark’s request.
