US President Donald Trump said on Sunday that Israel is now facing a critical moment when the ceasefire negotiations have broken down with Hamas. He stressed that the Israeli government would soon have to “decide” how to proceed in Gaza.
“They (Hamas) don’t want to put (hostages) back,” Trump told reporters in Scotland. “So Israel will have to decide.”
Trump added, “I know what I would do, but I don’t think it is appropriate to say. But Israel will decide.”
Help for Gaza: “No one recognized it”
The President also emphasized the ongoing efforts to help American assistance to Gaza and lamented over the lack of international recognition.
“We gave $ 60 million two weeks ago to eat for gaza,” Trump said. “And no one recognized it, no one talks about it. This makes you feel a little bad when you do it, and you have other countries that don’t give anything.”
Trump said that some of his own supporters criticized him for providing the help of Palestinians, but defended this step.
“There is a humanitarian reason to do it,” he said. “Will I have more help? Yeah. The US will be more helping for Gaza, but we would like to participate in other countries
Trump: USA prevented starvation in Gaza
Trump claimed that without American aid, Gaze would continue to deteriorate.
“If we weren’t there, I think people would starve, frankly,” he said. “Warm would and they weren’t as if they were eating well.”
Requires global assistance and recognition
Trump called on other nations to contribute to humanitarian efforts in Gaza and express frustrations of lack of recognition of the international community.
“It would be nice to have at least” thank you, “he said.
Background: The crisis deepens in Gaza
Trump’s comments come when Israel faces growing criticism over the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
Israel approved humanitarian AirDrops at the weekend and announced plans to set up UN convoys to supplies in stock.
The earlier negotiations on the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas collapsed last week, so the future of hostages and regional stability uncertain.
