US President Donald Trump asked the federal judge to forgive Rupert Murdoch to sit within 15 days to save in connection with his gum court against the Wall Street Journal (WSJ). Trump filed a lawsuit on July 18 and argued that the article in July 17 was falsely claiming that his name had appeared on a 2003 birthday letter to Jeffrey Epstein, a late financier and a convicted sexual delicacy.
The newspaper report described the letter as containing “sexually suggestive drawing”. Trump insists that there is no such letter.
Trump: “A letter is a fake”
Trump’s action calls a “false” and slander report and claims that the magazine has published a story with the intention of harming its reputation. On Monday’s court, Trump’s lawyers said the lawyers: “President Trump told Mr Murdoch before the article was published that the letter referred to in the story was false and Mr Murdoch would take care of him.” ”
The submission claims that this direct interaction indicates the “real anger” – the legal threshold of Trump must meet to succeed in its case of defamation.
Murdoch’s role under control
The 94 -year -old media tycoon is listed among the defendants, along with WSJ reporters and the company owner, Trump’s legal team. Trump emphasized the role of Murdoch in this matter and wrote: “Murdoch’s direct involvement further emphasizes the true malice of the defendants.”
Judge Darrin Gayles, chairman of the case in the Southern Florida district, ordered Murdoch to answer until 4 August.
An article published in the middle of the Epstein file pressure
The Court of Justice comes in a politically sensitive time. The WSJ article appeared as a pressure mounted in Trump’s administration and the Ministry of Justice to publish more information from the Epstein investigation. Epstein died suicide in 2019 while waiting for a court about federal fees for trading in sex.
The article and the subsequent legal battle have pointed out both from the conservative Trump base and from the congress democrats, many of which require transparency to the fully extent of the connection and the behavior of Epstein.
