In August, students reportedly hit the US at a four -year minimum and went to US President Donald Trump’s immigration policy.
“US visitors who arrived on student visas dropped 19 percent year-on-year to just over 3,13,000-year-on-year,” Bloomberg said, quoting data from the International Trade Administration, which monitors the arrival.

This is the lowest number of students entering the US for August – the top month for the arrival of new students – since 2021 in the middle of Covid Pandemic.
The total arrivals of students were reportedly almost 12% per year until August.
The decline was the sharpest among students from Asia, which corresponds to most American student visas, because Trump “America First” creates immigration obstacles.

A great decline in Asian arrivals
According to Bloomberg Asia published the largest decrease in the overall lack of students’ arrival and fell by 24% to about 191 000.
This included a decline of 45 percent of India and a 12 % decline from China. Thirteen of the largest source markets in Asia, from Japan to Vietnam, experienced a decline in the arrival of students in August and a year.
Africa has seen the steepest percentage of a decline, 33 percent, albeit from a smaller base. Western Europe showed the smallest decline, less than 1 percent.

Why such a decline in students’ arrivals in us?
This summer, Trump’s administration temporarily suspended interviews with students visas (at the end of May), added social media reviews to examine and promoted new limitation of H-1B visas for foreign workers-including $ 100,000.
The President signed a Friday statement of the program revision, including a $ 100,000 fee for requests. In particular, Indian and Chinese nationals dominate the H-1B program.

Shashi Tharoor reacts: “It’s not a big blow …”
In an interview with The Wire, a deputy of the Shashi Tharoor congress, he recorded a “decline in student applications for the current academic year” in the US. He talked about the desire of Trump’s administration to limit student visas for just four years.
Tharoor said that this rule, except the H-1B rule, “is not a big problem” as “If H-1B itself is not accessible to most of them, they would have to return … or move to other countries.”
“You will be sure that when the final figures come, Indian students in America in the current academic year, ie September 2025 to June 2026, will be significantly lower than Kohorta, which went to America in September 2024 … it will be lower,” Tharoor said.

Tharoor added that once the new H-1B visa has been implemented: “This (student application) will drop even further.”
He said, “America gets rid of Indian student talent, but that’s okay because others welcome them.”
Tharoor said he didn’t believe that this “is such a big blow to the Indian student community because” those who want to go abroad have different options. “
“It is a very, very interesting way in which Europe introduces a red carpet for Indian students in Germany and France, as well as other countries such as Australia, Canada and New Zealand, and even Ireland, attract Indian students,” Tharoor said.
