Several artillery and hand fire arms fire were reported near several border villages, expanding the area of conflicts that began on Thursday after the explosion of ground mines along the border injured five Thai soldiers. Cambodian and Thai officials accused each other of the opening of clashes. In response, both nations remembered their ambassador and Thailand closed the Cambodia border.
According to the Cambodian authorities, 12 new deaths were reported on Saturday, the total number of victims was 13 years old, while the Thai army announced that a soldier was killed, increasing the number of victims to 20, mostly civilians.
The Cambodian Minister of Information NetH Pheaktra said on Saturday that the clashes led to the evacuation of 10,865 Cambodian families in the total amount of 37,635 individuals from three border provinces to safer areas. Meanwhile, the Thai authorities said more than 131,000 people left their border villages.
