Donald Trump is scheduled to address the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland on Wednesday amid escalating tensions between the US and the European Union (EU) over Greenland, which the US president is set to annex.
Trump’s speech will be closely watched around the world amid rising tensions and comes after Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney’s explosive speech at the WEF on Tuesday, in which he highlighted a “rift” in the rules-based global order and warned against superpowers acting without restraint, taking a swipe at the US president without naming him.
Trump took off for Davos in the early hours of Wednesday, but had to return to American soil shortly after takeoff due to an electrical problem aboard Air Force One.
The US president is currently on his way to Davos, having transferred to another plane and is expected to speak at the WEF shortly after lunch local time.
Ahead of Trump’s speech, the WEF will also participate in a dedicated panel on India’s economic growth, featuring former IMF chief Gita Gopinath, Bharti Enterprises chief Sunil Mittal, Union minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and IKEA CEO Juvencio Maeztu Herrera as panelists.
