Trump Claims He Wasn’t Aware Of Size Of Family’s Crypto Holdings Amid $1.4 Billion Windfall: ‘I Might Know About It. I Don’t’ | News Today

President Donald Trump said on Thursday that he was not fully aware of the size of his family’s cryptocurrency holdings, while insisting that his association with the businesses was completely legal after revelations of significant profits from the family’s digital asset deals.

Earlier this week, Trump revealed that he will earn at least $1.4 billion in 2025 through cryptocurrency and memecoin investments. After delegating control of his business interests to his two oldest sons, the president was asked by CNBC how familiar he is with the family’s expanding crypto operations.

“I could have known about it. I didn’t know,” Trump mentioned in an interview at the White House.

According to his financial disclosure records, Trump said he earned approximately $594 million from World Liberty Financial, a cryptocurrency venture he co-founded with his sons. The records also listed approximately $636 million in revenue from his memecoin business and nearly $197 million from the sale of shares in stablecoin Holdco.

Trump told CNBC, “I’ve always made money. I’m a businessman. I’m a really good businessman. I’ve made money. I’ve made a huge amount of money.”

When asked about the billions of dollars he has made from cryptocurrency ventures, Trump dismissed concerns about a potential conflict of interest.

“The way I look at cryptocurrencies is a little different. We have to be on top or China will take over,” he said.

During his presidency, Trump reportedly pushed a strongly pro-cryptocurrency agenda, saying the United States should become the “crypto capital of the world” by loosening regulations, creating a bitcoin reserve, and promoting a dollar-backed stablecoin market.

‘I don’t even know who they are’: Trump on investors

Trump said other people were managing those investments on his behalf and that he was unaware of the investors’ identities.

“I let people invest it. I don’t even talk to them — I don’t even know who they are. My son Eric handles it. I don’t talk to him about things like this,” he continued.

He added that even if he knew who it was, it would not constitute a legal violation, pointing out that the US president and vice president are not required to recuse themselves from decisions that could affect their personal financial interests.

Trump added, “I didn’t. There’s nothing illegal about it. I could have known,” noting that there is no legal requirement “to recuse yourself from every decision to run the country that has anything to do with you. It’s just not possible to do that.”

Trump founded the Trump Organization years before entering politics with his three children, Don Jr., Eric and Ivanka, who play a key role in the business. Meanwhile, Ivanka has left the company’s operations.

Trump said the tight-knit nature of the family business makes it impossible for his children to completely separate themselves from the decisions he makes while serving as president.

“Almost everything my kids do — if they buy a truck — they have inside information,” he said, adding that his children are being unfairly scrutinized simply because they are pursuing their business careers while he is in office.

He said, “I kind of feel bad for my kids,” he said, adding that “whatever they do because the presidency is so powerful … if they buy a brownie company, well, brownie energy, you know, kind of like, what’s my energy policy?”

“So in that sense, it’s kind of hard. I tell my kids, ‘stay away.’ But they also have their lives. You know, they’ve been in business long before I even thought about … running for president,” Trump mentioned.

“I gave up my salary,” Trump says

Trump also claimed that he does not receive a government salary while serving as president.

But according to the law, the US president is entitled to an annual salary of $400,000.

“This is the Oval Office. It’s a much bigger purpose than whether or not I make money. For example, the president is the highest paid person in the government, and you know, by some standards, he gets paid a lot. … I gave up my salary. I don’t get paid,” he said.
