US President Donald Trump announced on Sunday, October 19, that authorities had received a tip about a “drug submarine” approaching the United States through a drug-smuggling transit route. Insinuating that America would not tolerate narco-terrorists, he claimed to have destroyed a vessel of the illegal drug trade.
In a post on Truth Social, he said: “It was my great honor to destroy a very large DRUG SUBMARINE that was sailing towards the United States on a well-known transit route for drug smuggling.”
Confirming that the US intelligence unit had received information about the illegal submarine, he said: “There were four known narco-terrorists on board the vessel.” A vessel attempting to smuggle mainly Fentanyl and other illegal narcotics into the country was destroyed while on a transit route for drug smuggling.
“25,000 Americans would die if…”
According to the post, two of the terrorists were killed. “At least 25,000 Americans would have died if I had allowed this submarine to come ashore,” the 79-year-old claimed. Legal proceedings to return the two surviving terrorists, who are from Ecuador and Colombia, are ongoing.
Asserting that the US would not tolerate narco-terrorism and related terrorist activities, he wrote: “No US forces were harmed in this strike. Under my watch, the United States of America will not tolerate narco-terrorists trafficking illegal drugs by land or sea.”
What is narco-terrorism?
According to the US Department of Justice, the term narcoterrorism refers to the involvement of terrorist organizations and insurgent groups in the drug trade. It turned out to be a significant issue with international implications.
