United States President Donald Trump has boasted about recent strikes on the Iranian navy. He claimed that 46 Iranian vessels were now “lying at the bottom of the ocean”. According to Trump, military officials decided to sink the ships rather than capture them, reportedly joking that it was “more fun” to destroy them.
He also claimed that, along with its Israeli partners, Iran was being “crushed” by what he described as a stunning display of military might and technological superiority.
Donald Trump said: “Iran’s drone and missile capability is absolutely destroyed. The navy is gone. It’s all on the bottom of the ocean. 46 ships, can you believe it? I was actually a little mad at our people. When I said ‘what’s the quality of the ship?’ they said, ‘Excellent sir. Top of the line’.”
“I said, ‘Why didn’t we just capture those ships? We could use that. Why did we sink them?’ They said it was more fun to sink them. They like to dive. They say it’s safer to sink them, I guess it’s true,” he said.
“We won”: Trump
Donald Trump also claimed that they won the war against Iran, but “didn’t win enough”. He also promised “final victory” against the Gulf country.
Trump said: “We have won in many ways, but we have not won enough. We are moving forward more determined than ever to achieve a final victory that will end this long-standing danger once and for all.”
He also said that the world would be a much safer place once the operation was completed and that “it will be completed quite quickly”.
On the US attacks on Iran, Trump said: “If we didn’t go in, they would come for us…Within a week they would attack us 100 percent. They were ready. They had all these missiles, much more than anybody thought, and they attacked us. They were going to attack the whole Middle East and Israel.”
“If they had a nuclear weapon, they would use it on Israel. It would have to be a big attack. They had all those missile sites and all those launchers, which we got rid of about 80 percent of right now… They have very few launchers left. What our military has done is amazing,” he said.
Meanwhile, General Dan Caine, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, reported that the US was also conducting strikes against Iranian mine-laying vessels.
