Trump Reveals Upcoming Statues Honoring Kobe Bryant, Muhammad Ali, and Jackie Robinson
Washington D.C. – In a heartfelt and emotional ceremony, President Donald Trump revealed the designs for new statues honoring three icons of American sports and social justice movements. The statues, which are expected to be completed within the next two years, will be of basketball legend Kobe Bryant, boxing champion Muhammad Ali, and baseball pioneer Jackie Robinson.
The ceremony, held at the White House, was attended by family members and close friends of the honorees, as well as high-ranking officials from various sports organizations and civil rights groups. Trump, accompanied by First Lady Melania Trump, praised the athletes for their outstanding achievements and the positive impact they had on American society.
"Today, we are gathered to celebrate three American treasures who left an indelible mark on our nation’s history," Trump said, his voice filled with emotion. "Kobe Bryant, Muhammad Ali, and Jackie Robinson were more than just athletes – they were beacons of hope, inspiration, and courage. Their commitment to excellence, their perseverance in the face of adversity, and their unwavering dedication to social justice are qualities that we should all strive to emulate."
The statues, designed by renowned artist/ sculptor Jim Shephard, depict each honoree in their respective sporting attire. Bryant is shown in his Los Angeles Lakers jersey, Ali is depicted in his boxing trunks, and Robinson is rendered in his Brooklyn Dodgers uniform. The statues will be installed in prominent public spaces, with one location still to be determined.
Kobe Bryant’s widow, Vanessa, tearfully thanked Trump and the administration for the honor. "This is a momentous occasion, and I am overwhelmed with gratitude. Kobe would have wanted us to share his love of basketball with everyone, and this statue will inspire future generations to pursue their passions with the same determination and fervor he did."
Muhammad Ali’s daughter, Laila Ali, praised the initiative, saying, "Dad would have been thrilled to know that his legacy is being recognized in this way. He was a champion in every sense of the word, and his commitment to social justice and equality will continue to inspire us long after he is gone."
Jackie Robinson’s daughter, Sharon Robinson, added, "My father was a trailblazer, and this statue will serve as a reminder of his courage and perseverance in the face of adversity. We are proud to be part of this moment, and we hope it will encourage others to continue his legacy of breaking down barriers and overcoming obstacles."
The ceremony concluded with a poignant reading of an original poem, penned by Trump, which honored the sacrifices and achievements of the three honorees. The statues are expected to be completed in 18-24 months and will be unveiled in public ceremonies marking the anniversaries of each athlete’s most notable achievements.
In a post-ceremony press briefing, White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders shed light on the administration’s vision behind the project. "President Trump is committed to celebrating American exceptionalism, and these statues are a testament to the power of human spirit, resilience, and excellence. By honoring these iconic figures, we are reaffirming the values that our nation holds dear – courage, perseverance, and the pursuit of greatness."
As the ceremony concluded, the future sites for the statues were not disclosed, but officials assured that the public will have the opportunity to view and venerate these inspiring tributes to American heroes.
