Donald Trump admitted on Friday that the storage of tariffs in India for the purchase of Russian oil had source relations between India and the US and stated that it “caused a tear” with India.
“Look, India was their biggest customer. I gave 50 % tariff on India because they buy oil from Russia. It’s not easy to do. That’s a big thing and it causes a rupture with India,” Trump said in an interview with Fox News on Friday.
The links from the US and India were tense after Trump’s storage of 50 % of tariffs to all Indian goods, while the plus and its helper Peter Navarro repeatedly criticized India’s energy links with Russia.
Meanwhile, India claimed to continue to buy oil from Russia and state that it is driven by the national interest and dynamics of the market.
“But I’ve done it. I did a lot,” Trump added in his interview and talked about US fees.
“And remember that this is a much more problem than our problem,” Trump continued his interview.
The latest Potus comments come after he and Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed interviews between India and the US-PO weeks of Trump’s anti-Indian loans.
India-USA business conversations
On Friday, Sergio Gor, close to Trump’s assistant and nominated for the US Ambassador in India, “deep friendship” between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Trump, stressed that both countries are not “away” to complete the business agreement.
Previously, the Union Minister Piyush Goyal announced that “India is in an active dialogue” with the US for a trade agreement.
The Minister also stated that negotiations are underway with the European Union in the national capital for concluding a business agreement.
What are the American tariffs in India
US President Donald Trump deposited a total of 50% of tariffs on all goods imported from India, at the top of an existing 10% of the basic import duties on any good imported to the Western nation.
The last round of American tariffs, 25% of the import duty, was stored in India via the executive order of August 6, 2025. These other tariffs came into effect from 27 September 2025.
Before other Trump tariffs, he ordered 25% tariff on all Indian goods imported into the United States, one day before its initial date of 1 August 2025.
Potus credited his heavy tariff to India is a “overwhelming majority” to the buyer of military equipment and oil from Russia. Trump also claimed in a social media post that India in one way allows Russia in the war against Ukraine through oil purchases.
