An overnight accident involving a steel-laden truck and a CNG car led to a massive fire near Kurubarahalli on March 27 around 1.30 am, triggering panic in the area and resulting in the death of one person.

According to preliminary information, the truck driver lost control on a steep slope and crashed into a stationary car. The impact sent the car into a nearby scrap yard, sparking a fire that quickly engulfed both the vehicle and the scrap yard.
The fire rescue service went to the scene and fought the flames with the help of several firefighting units. It took several hours to bring the fire under control.
A person was wedged in the car and lost his life. The victim, 23-year-old Ambadas, is a native of Kalaburagi. He was said to be sleeping inside the car at the time of the accident. Firefighters had difficulty extricating the charred body from the wreckage.
The truck driver, identified as Sharma, sustained minor injuries and was taken to hospital.

Online map navigation, heavy load
Investigation revealed that the truck was carrying steel from Andhra Pradesh towards Sunkadakatte. The driver used an online map service for navigation. He was directed to his destination via Kurubarahalli. The section has a steep slope. Due to the heavy load, the driver lost control of the vehicle on the slope.
Police said the truck dragged the car for almost 100 meters before it crashed into a junkyard and started a fire.
A case has been registered and further investigation is underway.
