Troubled Carlos Alcaraz exits Wimbledon after missing French Open

World number two Carlos Alcaraz has confirmed he will miss this year’s Wimbledon Championships as he continues to recover from a lingering wrist injury. Alcaraz already does withdrew from the French Open earlier this monthwhile the injury also eliminated him from the clay major.

The Spanish star suffered a right wrist injury during the Barcelona Open in April. Since then, Alcaraz has also withdrawn from the Madrid Open and the Italian Open in an attempt to focus on his recovery.

In a post on social media, Alcaraz said the decision to miss Wimbledon was taken to prevent further aggravation of the injury and to ensure he returns to full fitness for the rest of the season.

“My recovery is going well and I’m feeling a lot better, but unfortunately I’m still not ready to play and that’s why I have to pull out of the grass swing at Queen’s and Wimbledon. They’re two really special tournaments for me and I’m going to miss them a lot. We’re still working to get back as soon as possible!”

NO SINCARAZ AT WIMBLEDON

Alcaraz picked up an injury during the Barcelona Openwhere he was forced to withdraw from his match against Otto Virtanen. Since then, the Spaniard has been sidelined, missing the Madrid Open, the Italian Open and now the opportunity to defend his title at the French Open.

Alcaraz’s withdrawal from Wimbledon also means fans will have to wait longer for the next chapter of the much-anticipated Sincaraz rivalry. The two last met at a Grand Slam in the US Open final last year, where Alcaraz won at Flushing Meadows.

Alcaraz’s rivalry with Sinner has become one of the biggest draws in men’s tennis, making his absence from the next two Grand Slams a big deal for fans and broadcasters alike. The pair produced a memorable French Open final last year, with Alcaraz producing a comeback victory before Sinner responded with defeat in the Wimbledon final.

Earlier this year, Alcaraz became the youngest man to complete a career Grand Slam after defeating Novak Djokovic in the Australian Open final. However, he recently lost his world number one ranking to Sinner after losing in the final of the Monte Carlo Masters. With Alcaraz missing Wimbledon, Sinner now has a unique opportunity to further strengthen his position at the top of the ATP rankings.
