The Tripura police arrested the fourth fugitive three months after he escaped from a prison in the state in October last year. Sunil Debbarma was captured from his home in Melaghar in Sepahijala district late on Tuesday night.
Sunil Debbarma was the most wanted among the fugitives, having been convicted of murder and other serious crimes and serving a life sentence.
Six prisoners, including five convicts and one convict, escaped on October 1 from the Dharmanagar jail in northern Tripura. One of them, Narayan Chandra Dutta, is a Bangladeshi national.
They escaped from the prison after attacking a guard at the gate and several prison guards.
Three of the fugitives, including a Bangladeshi national, were arrested within days of the incident. After the arrest of Sunil Debbarma, two more prisoners remain on the run.
Police said Sunil Debbarma was arrested in a raid based on specific tips. He was brought before the court on Wednesday and returned for questioning.
