The Trinamool Congress delegation on Monday (1 July 2025) called on the Indian Election Commission (ECI) to accept 2024 as a basic year for any revision of election roles. The delegation met with the committee against its decision to perform a special intensive revision (Sir) voters in Bihar, the process that the panel said will eventually be extended to all countries.
West Bengal is scheduled for elections in 2026.
“Voters registered by 2024 should remain regardless of any state,” said Trinamool MP and Party head at Lok Sabha, Kalyan Banerjee.
Mr. Banerjee said that while ECI said that his goal for Sir was to ensure that “no voter remains”, some recent circulates reflect the “first capacity and integration later”.
He said that the party raised concerns about the requirement of birth certificates for verification. “They (ECI) said that those who are already voters will remain voters. If it happens after this classification, it will be based on evidence,” said Mr. Banerjee.

The Trinamool delegation also indicated what it called the arbitrary inclusion of a large number of voters in election roles just before the elections, quoting examples from Haryana and Delhi. “Only new voters aged 18 to 21 should be added before public opinion surveys. Mr. Banerjee asked.
The party also expressed concern about the delayed publishing of turnout data.
Minister of West Bengal and Mla Firhad Hakim, who was part of the delegation, raised the question of the central forces that allegedly entered the election cabins and influenced voters.
“We suggested that if there are central forces, the state police should also be present inside the stand. No forces should enter the area where they get into the cabins,” Hakim said.
