Tribute to “MS” on her 110th birth anniversary

Legendary singer and ‘Bharat Ratna’ MS Subbulakshmi was paid rich tributes on her 110th birth anniversary in Tirupati on Wednesday.

Several music enthusiasts, budding singers, stage artists and classical music academicians gathered at her bronze idol installed at the APSRTC junction and offered garlands.

Scholars in the crowd sang her classic numbers as a tribute to ‘MS Amma’ as she was popularly known in music circles. Similarly, students of Nadaswaram department performed ‘Mangala Vadyam’.

Speakers recalled her contribution to TTD in the form of royalty of crores of rupees from Sri Venkateswara Suprabhatham and Annamayya Kirtans.

Members of ‘Rayalaseema Rangasthali’, a cultural organization based in Tirupati, led by its president Gundala Gopinath Reddy, paid tribute to her statue. He recalled how she spread devotion through her classics like Bhaja Govindam and Vishnu Sahasranamam.
