Trent Alexander-Arnold has reportedly turned down another contract offer from Liverpool as he aims for a free transfer to Real Madrid.
Liverpool are facing uncertainty over several key players whose contracts are nearing expiration. Alexander-Arnold, along with Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk, has left fans anxious about their futures at Anfield.
While the club remains hopeful about renewing Salah and Van Dijk, the same optimism does not extend to Alexander-Arnold. Reports suggest his move to Madrid is “99% complete.”
According to MARCA, Alexander-Arnold has dealt Liverpool a final blow by rejecting yet another contract offer.
It is claimed that Alexander-Arnold has his heart set on Madrid and made the decision to leave Anfield long ago, with “nothing” able to change his mind.
Personal terms have reportedly been agreed between Madrid and Alexander-Arnold. Although a formal pre-contract has not been signed, the move to the Santiago Bernabeu is widely expected to materialize this summer.
If the transfer goes through, Alexander-Arnold will face stiff competition for playing time from Dani Carvajal. While the Englishman is seen as the long-term successor, the 33-year-old Carvajal, recovering from a serious knee injury, has vowed to return to his best form.
Meanwhile, Liverpool will need to decide on a replacement for Alexander-Arnold. Academy graduate Conor Bradley, 21, has filled in this season, but manager Arne Slot may opt for a more experienced player, with Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong frequently linked to the role.
