On Saturday morning traffic jam stopped the national highway section between Mudikkode and Peechi. The overload took several hours, with hundreds of vehicles stuck. Both the service road and the main road remained clogged.
The collapse of the MUDIKODE service road was quoted as the primary reason for Gridck. Although Tarring was carried out in Kalliduk and Mudikke, local people claimed that tar will peel off in a few days due to heavy traffic and rain. They required an urgent intervention by the authorities.
Meanwhile, the secretary of KPCC Shaji Kodandanrath submitted a petition to the collector Thrissur, which pointed to a serious forfeiture of the Indian National Motorway Office (NHAI) and the contracting society.
He said that despite the instructions of the monitoring committee led by a collector who was created after the Directive of the High Court in the Kerala, nor Nhai, nor the supplier did not take scientific steps to strengthen service roads, expand or remedy drainage problems.
He argued that the departures of traffic on the roads Panchayat and PWD due to traffic blocks on the national highway caused extensive damage to these sections on Kodakar, Chalakuda and Ollur.
“Since this damage is a direct consequence of the negligence of Nhai and the supplier, they should be obtained from the costs of repairing these roads,” the petition said.
Mr. Kodankanrath said that the construction of the underpass on the section of the Mudikkode-Vaniampar-Callidukku was started without ensuring scientific strengthening of service roads or alternative traffic arrangements, resulting in suffering. “People literally inhale road dust every day, which leads to health problems. Patchwork, which was done recently, is an eye certificate and has already begun to erode with rain and movement of heavy vehicles,” he said in the petition.
