Karnataka Transgender Task Force (KTTF), a team of Transgender Rights, demanded that the government should conduct a gender minority survey in the way from door to door and require discrimination and lack of facilities in hospitals and other government centers where the survey is currently taking place.
KTTF noticed that 45 days were insufficient to carry out a comprehensive survey and mobilization of the community, and also demanded an extension of the survey period. The requirements were developed at a meeting with nearly 100 community members, listeners and representatives of the State Committee.
Demand for door survey to the door
“We support the survey AZ all of the hearts. But it has a few questions. Many of our community members faced discrimination in hospitals from employees. There are older citizens who cannot go to hospitals or other government centers to sign up.
“If surveys such as caste census and social and educational survey can be kept from door to door, why can’t the same way for the Transgender community?” She asked.
Reconnaissance centers
According to government officials, the district and taluk of the hospital were selected as reconnaissance centers to initially collect impartial data in a confidential way. A week after the start of the survey, a circular was issued, which expanded the reconnaissance centers to other government authorities.
However, the participants of the meeting stressed that neither hospitals nor government centers were the most friendly places for Transgender or intermediate individuals and demanded the government to include “hamams” and community organizations such as data collection centers.
Stigma
Community leaders also pointed out that the mobilization of people who participate in the survey proved to be severe due to the stigma against them in government centers and reports of privacy violations.
It seems that not only participants, but even enumerations are faced during the survey.
