TPCC President B. Mahesh Kumar addressing an OBC public meeting in Shamshabad on Sunday.

Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) President B. Mahesh Kumar Goud said that the Congress is committed to ensure greater political share for the Backward Classes (BC) and declared that the BC leader will become the Chief Minister of Telangana in future.

He reiterated the demand for inclusion of BC/OBC column in the national census-2027 and urged BCs to come together and fight for its inclusion.

Addressing a public meeting organized under the chairmanship of TPCC OBC cell president and MLA Veerlapalli Shankar in Shamshabad on Sunday (October 4, 2026), Mr. Goud said that Rahul Gandhi has given political confidence to the Congress to take up the cause of BC rights and social justice.

Telangana led by example by conducting the caste survey, he said, criticizing the Center for excluding OBCs from its surveys while retaining the Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST) categories.

He said the Congress government has started increasing the representation of BCs in local bodies and will expand their representation in the cabinet, Legislative Council and state corporations. He called on BC communities to come together and demand their share of political power and social benefits.

Expressing confidence that Rahul Gandhi would become prime minister, he said the Congress would conduct a nationwide caste census if voted to power at the Centre, calling social justice a legitimate political demand.

BC Transport and Social Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar said that Telangana has set a national example by conducting the caste survey. He said that Telangana and Bihar got credit for conducting the exercise.

Mr. Prabhakar said that a nationwide caste census was necessary to determine reservations, social arrangements and political representation on a scientific basis. He urged the BCs to put pressure on the Union Government by bringing the Telangana Assembly resolution on the issue at the grassroots level.

AICC OBC Cell President Anil Jaihind, All India Professional Congress President Madhu Yaskhi Goud, Government Advisor V. Hanumantha Rao and other BC legislators addressed the meeting.
